awhile back i pleaded for some acorns to be sent my way. i had the grand idea of making a wreath out of acorns. two very dear friends sent me ziplocs filled to the brim with acorns from their yards {ali and linda, something is still coming you way, promise!}. however, silly me didn't even think about the very large quantity of acorns i would need to make the picture in my head come to life {next year perhaps}. instead, i took a little crafting detour and made a vase filler. typically this candle sits on our dining table and is lit every night for dinner {do you light a candle at dinner? if you don't, you should. it's so warming and calming.} here's what i did:
1. in a ziploc freezer bag, freeze your acorns for at least 72 hours {this kills all the little worms}
2. in a secure area {meaning away from animals} lightly {key} spray paint the acorns with gold spray paint and then hit them all with a good coat of lacquer
3. add them to a hurricane vase & add a candle
every time i light this candle, i think of two women who mean so much to me in life. one a mentor. one a sister. this week i'm participating in kim's dare to be thankful diy. originally, this post was written for kimba's diy day {i'll still post it there} but i must say that kim's topic made me realize something that subconsciously i think of everyday: how thankful i am for the women in my life. family and friends. are there women in your life that you are thankful for, too? have you told them lately?
